Vintage Pot Metal Cap Gun
As you can see from the photos, this old toy cap gun which belonged to the owner’s late father was completely broken in half.The owner tried to JB weld it, but this method doesn’t work too well and it’s unfortunate that so many promote it. This is by far the worst thing you can do for broken pot metal if and when a permanent repair is wanted. You see, pot metal is like a porous metal sponge that deeply absorbs moisture causing it to rot from the inside out. When this happens the rotted metal must be grind-ed out to good clean metal before welding can be performed…
So DON’T use glue to repair pot metal. It’ll only make the situation worse!
