Antique Spelter Clock & Finial
This antique clock fell from atop a piano during a residence move. The main supporting limb was broken off and the body had broken in half. There were small pieces that had broken away that just couldn’t be repaired and so they were left out and replaced with new metal. The waist was broken clean, with now other damage aside from separation. After closer examination, it was determined that the waist had only been glued together with some form of metallic substance. This made it a bit easier for fitment, but harder to weld due to contamination. We had to grind some of the base metal back to clean material in order to achieve a successful weld. Thankfully this was minimal and shaped up nicely.
After the repairs were completed, photos of the completed work were sent to the owner, she was overjoyed with emotion and gratitude. And that’s worth more to me than the bi-product of money.
Sallee, thank you for trusting me with your invaluable spelter clock. It’s very much appreciated!!
